Friends and fellow foodies, Mahela Jayawardene, Kumar Sangakkara and Dharshan Munidase created Ministry of Crab as a celebration of Sri Lanka’s seafood, particularly of her wonderfully sweet and succulent crabs.
We know - when you think Mahela and Kumar your thoughts turn to cricket not to crabs, catches not cuisine! But rest assured, Mahela and Kumar are foodies through and through, as of course is Dharshan whose culinary credentials include founding the internationally acclaimed Nihonbashi.
The Crabs are the ‘stars of the show’ at Ministry of Crab, with signature dishes such as Chilli Crab, Pepper Crab and Baked Crab on the menu. We also highlight the amazing King Prawns from the rivers of Sri Lanka while providing a selective range of delectable accompaniments (a selection of rice and vegetarian dishes) - Ministry of Crab is a culinary experience that will keep you coming back for more!
The Old Dutch Hospital is thought to be one of the oldest buildings in Colombo Fort, and undoubtedly its one of the most beautiful. Built by the Dutch in 1677 as (you guessed it) a hospital, the site has been variously used since – housing the Colombo Apothecaries, and serving as the Colombo Fort Police Station, among other things. Sadly neglected for the past few years due to the civil war the rejuvenation of this site is symbolic of Sri Lanka’s progress. For us at Ministry of Crab getting involved in this project was therefore something we were passionate about. Not only does the beauty of the building continue to inspire us, but to be a part of the Old Dutch Hospital is to be a part of Sri Lanka’s history – and we’re honoured to be a part of that.
